Crashing in Windows 7 64bit

Postby cmr » Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:28 pm

I'm getting access violations and other weird blinking whenever I switch CD's and it goes to do lookups to freedb etc. I also see it occurring just as it finishes ripping a cd, the last second and then it goes and ejects the cd. When I then throw in another cd and close the tray it occurs again but this time is when it usually throws the exception or program error.

Getting the same here, in various situations as well. Windows XP sp3 here.
Even tried a clean install (uninstalled, installed) and problem is still there :(

Will try and screenshot next time it appears.

What language setting do you use ? Is it v2010.3 ?

I've tested on Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows XP 32-bit, and Windows 2000 32-bit and have not got any errors in ripping or converting. I wonder if this is a conflict with certain anti-virus, or CD/DVD software.

Hey Poiko .. yes it's the latest version 2010.3 and I'm using the English Language. I'm using Kapersky Internet Security v.9 and do have Anydvd v. 6.6.8.0. I've never had problems before though with AnyDvd but Kapersky is new and haven't run it under that software before.

How do you change the language? During Install?

I have made a screenshot of a crash situation:

These are getting quite frequent now, and very very annoying, I think I have to reinstall 2010.1 or something.

There really should be a way of turning on some crash logging...

Running Avast antivirus, Windows XP 32bit SP3. Usually running Mediamonkey and some other apps while ripping. But I don't think it's AV - I've run it a long time with no problems ripping before 2010.2...

Does it happen after freedb query? Does it happen e.g. Only then when there are multiple matches from the freedb?

I don't know yet why it happens I haven't been able to reproduce the error on my computer. i will do more testing.

I've a hard time finding the exact way to reproduce it but like melon says it seems to be related to db queries, possibly after ripping.

I will try with an album I know has got two entries.

Also sometimes it just crashes to desktop with the message "program will be closed" but most of the time the program runs but does not work.

EDIT; I just did, with an album that existed two entries in FreeDB (Prodigy). After ripping it I inserted another CD (Tresor), and the second entry for the first album (Prodigy) was still there in the drop down list for FreeDB. After pressing eject it crashed with the same error shown above.

Here's a screenshot of the situation:

I put a test build to

Do you get error with this version ?

I noticed possible memory address violation with timer component that handles in/out of the discs.

Update:

I found a bug in the way the freedb menu was managed. A logical programming error.

I put a new test build:

Update:

I managed to crash it again.

I now know why it happens.

Put a CD and get 3 freedb matches
Take a CD away
Put another CD that has less matches
-> Crash !

Anyways, it will be easy for me to fix it now that I know where and why it happens !

Thanks for your help, I will post a test build 3 later today/tomorrow.

Cool, thanks!
So should I stick with the 2010.3 regular build until this is fixed then? I guess I can live with it for a while :)

You removed the post? :? I guess everything is not all right?

ANyway, I haven't got a chance to test whether the crash is gone but I just got another one :( I've seen this a lot as well, it causes a crash to desktop, as opposed to the other one that does not exit the program but stops other stuff working:

Image

Looking at the threads in Process Explorer I notice when it crashed it has a thread towards freedb.org:http in state CLOSE_WAIT.
