Filename generation settings

Filenames

These settings control how file names are formatted when audio files are created or renamed during ripping or conversion.

Convert filenames to lowercase

When enabled, all characters in generated file names are converted to lowercase. This can help maintain a uniform naming style and avoid case-sensitivity issues on certain file systems or software environments.

Convert space characters to

This option replaces spaces in file names with a specified character (such as an underscore or hyphen). It improves compatibility with systems that handle spaces poorly and can make file paths easier to read and manage in scripts or command-line tools.

Illegal character replacement

Defines how invalid or reserved characters are handled when creating file names from metadata (such as artist, album, or track title).

Replace characters that are not allowed in filenames by the Windows file system. If field is left empty, then the reserved character is simply removed from the file name.

Reserved characters are:
/  \  :  *  ?  "  <  >  |

Replace text

Allows automatic replacement of specific characters or text sequences within generated file names. This can be used to standardize naming conventions, remove problematic characters, or adapt file names to the requirements of different operating systems, devices, or media players.

For example, you may replace spaces, special symbols, or accented characters to improve compatibility and avoid issues with software that does not handle certain characters correctly. It also helps maintain a clean, consistent, and predictable file naming structure across your music library.
