EZ CD Audio Converter always use the LAME MP3 "High Quality" setting (-q2) for best audio quality. (all codecs in EZ CD Audio Converter aim for best audio quality)

No advanced options are needed with the new codec configuration interface. MP3 encoder configuration is now similar to other encoder configurations.

But now you can't setup stereo mode (joint stereo) or setting up filters... I always was so happy to be able to set up all those things...

Joint Stereo is preferred mode at all bit rates for best audio quality. Default passbands are optimized for best audio quality. I am sure you want the highest possible audio quality by default.

Joint Stereo is definitely not my preferred encoding method for any techno or dance music where the production often has speaker play. Can I please have a link to download the previous version?

LAME MP3 encoder does a very good job of making Joint Stereo better sounding than L/R Stereo via codec advances, which is why joint stereo is the LAME MP3 encoder default for all bit rates.

Now, let's consider a 256 kbit/s MP3 file:

A L/R Stereo file will have two channels that share the bit-rate but are independent of one another. So 256 kbit/s becomes 128 kbit/s per channel maximum, irrespective of the amount of shared information; centre(mono) sound. Information can be duplicated at the expense of detail.

A Joint Stereo file can mix (join) parts of the audio that are close to centre/mono and very similar sound/information. This allows more of the available bit-rate to represent detail both for the mono parts and the separate (stereo) parts.

So I guess that's a 'no'.

MP3 convert (Stereo, Joint Stereo)

Post by Vedruger » Tue Jan 18, 2022 1:57 am

Good day. I would like to be able to reuse the function to convert files to Stereo with Joint Stereo source. I am using version 9.5.1.1, as later versions, such as 9.5.2 and the recent 9.5.3, do not convert Joint Stereo files to Stereo.

I think it's not too much to ask for that feature to be added back, because as I said, 'Joint Stereo' files are converted to 'Joint Stereo' and 'Stereo' to 'Stereo', but not 'Joint Stereo' to 'Stereo' and also 'Stereo' to 'Joint Stereo'.

Greetings. . .

MP3 settings is missing?

Post by yamasakiross » Sat Jan 22, 2022 11:04 pm

I noticed that in the recent update, it is no longer possible to configure MP3 options (eg JOINT STEREO etc). What happened? Is this definitive or a bug? Image

I've updated the LAME MP3 Encoder in EZ CD Audio Converter 9.5.3 installer. Download and Install again from https://www.poikosoft.com to update the encoder.

"Stereo | Auto" (L/R Stereo + M/S Stereo = Joint Stereo)
JOINT STEREO is the default mode of encoding.
jstereo means the encoder can use (on a frame by frame basis) either
L/R stereo or mid/side stereo. In mid/side stereo, the mid(L+R) and side(L-R)
channels are encoded, and more bits are allocated to the mid channel
than the side channel. When there isn't too much stereo separation, this
effectively increases the bandwidth, so having higher quality with the same
amount of bits.

"Stereo | L/R"
(FORCED) L/R STEREO encodes the left and the right signals independently,
and gives more or less bits to each, depending on the currently available.

For those who prefer Stereo encoding efficiency, use "Stereo | Auto" (L/R Stereo + M/S Stereo used as Joint Stereo) (improved audio quality per bit rate) (same as "Stereo" in the previous release)

For those who prefer Forced L/R Stereo encoding can use "Stereo | L/R"

Thanks for listening and updating, Poiko. I use the Microsoft Store version. Will I have to wait for an update?
