I'm transcoding audiobooks with music in thems. I use VBR (because there is a lot of silence in thems) and V7-V9 quality. At the same time, I always use frequency in MP3 44100 Hz, because there may be music in an audiobook, and decrease in frequency is a loss of quality.
However in the new versions, there is no possibility to select the frequency at low bitrates. This is unacceptable for me, I have to use the old versions. Is it possible to return the frequency selection?

Re: MP3 codec options: frequency
You will actually get better overall audio quality with the lower sample rates (in low bit rate encoding). Because there is cutoff (lowpass) frequency in low bitrate modes the full frequency scale (up to 22050 for audio sampled at 44100 Hz rate) is not retained anyway. Using the lower frequency helps the encoder to use bits more efficiently for better audio quality at low bit rates.
-V7 ~80kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~15300Hz
-V8 ~64kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~11300Hz
-V9 ~56kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~7300 Hz
There are some sample rate options for V7-V9:
-V7 ~80kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~15300Hz
-V8 ~64kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~11300Hz
-V9 ~56kbit/s Stereo cutoff: ~7300 Hz

Re: MP3 codec options: frequency
I understand that. That's just what my clients don't understand. They see, for example, the bitrate VBR 50-90, the frequency 44100 and are calm and happy. No one is digging inside an MP3 file in search of cut-off frequencies. In the new version, I have to put 24000 frequencies, they SEE it and complain. So please, turn back the frequency selection.

Hi Poiko, even if you are right about the sound quality output, I must agree with "Profp" ...
Please keep in mind that users will always have custom needs, and therefore will requires custom options.
EZ CD is a strong product because users have full control over encoders properties.
Please be careful with my favorite audio converting software ... avoid the "Apple" path with more fixed presets and less custom settings ...

Re: MP3 codec options: frequency
Please note that official LAME MP3 command line encoder selects the best sampling frequency per bit rate as following
Input file 44.1 kHz
-V 6 44.1 kHz
-V 7 32 kHz
-V 8 24 kHz
-V 9 22.05 kHz
EZ CD Audio Converter LAME MP3 Encoder matches those
It's not recommended to change the default sampling frequency if you prefer the best possible audio quality and the best audio quality is the thing EZ CD Audio Converter targets for

Re: MP3 codec options: frequency
Updated the MP3 encoder VBR 7/8/9 sample rate options for EZ CD Audio Converter 10.1
It now allows sample rate selection of 48/44 kHz with VBR modes 7/8/9 but defaults to 32/24/22 with Auto like the official command line encoder.
