[ Fixed ] Read disc information

Post by TAIFUN » Tue Aug 06, 2019 8:57 pm

Hi.

I have a problem. The program EZ CD Audio Converter 8.5.0.1 cannot(?) read disk information.

This process does not end. I can not use the program.
I turned on the setting "Enable read error detection" > Method C2 #2, but it didn’t lead to a result.

I use PLDS DVD+ -RW DU-8A5LH DD11.

Does this happen with all audio CDs on your computer ?

If this happens only with a particular audio CD, then it seems like the drive cannot read the disc and stalls. There is a 30 second time out in disc detection, but it may not work if the drive hangs itself. The disc may be in such a bad condition (dirt, scratches) that the drive cannot detect the disc at all. In this case, try to clean the disc first.

I don’t have other discs right now. (
But EAC (Exact Audio Copy) opened my CD, and I can rip my CD.

Can you test these Options:
- Read CD-Text
- Detect pre-gaps
- Read Catalog / ISRC and pre-emphasis
- Detect HTOA

One by one to see which one causes your CD drive to freeze ?

Problem no longer exists ? It may have been a driver issue, either Windows (SATA?) driver or a CD/DVD/BD filter driver installed by some other software.

I will build a test app that reads the toc in the same way as EZ CD and writes a log what is happening. Then I will be able to see what happens; is it the drive that crashes or something else.

Can you try the Test TOC utility I just created ?

It prints some information what happens when "Read disc information" executes. This way I will be able to see in which point it locks up on your PCs.

Thanks for help.

Thanks. So the drive locks up when "READ DISC INFORMATION" command is sent to the drive.

I will modify the test up so that I will completely remove the "READ DISC INFORMATION" command (it is used to detect blank CD-RW).

Thanks. So it is fixed with your great help. It seems like your PLDS drive crashes internally (I/O locks up) when Read Disc Information command is executed. The command is not required for reading the disc contents so I have removed it.

The Read Disc Information command is also used in disc burning. I have found out that some drives/drivers crash if the data size read with Read Disc Information command is greater than 32 bytes (spec say the size can vary depending what information I want to read from the drive). So I also changed the data size to 32 bytes in disc burning to make sure there will not be problems with it. (I do not need the extra information beyond 32 bytes).

Fix will be included in the next EZ CD update.
