xHE-AAC Encoder

Post by NativeDreamer » Sun Aug 16, 2020 3:00 am

Hello, I was wondering since xHE-AAC codec was added would all the modes be available in the near future like lower-rate coding tools that's not in the current version of xHE-AAC encoder?

EZ CD Audio Converter currently uses the open-source xHE-AAC encoder exhale ("Ecodis eXtended High-efficiency And Low-complexity Encoder").

https://gitlab.com/ecodis/exhale

Exhale's objective is high quality mono, stereo, and multichannel coding at medium and high bit rates, so the lower-rate USAC coding tools (ACELP, TCX, Enhanced SBR and MPEG Surround with Unified Stereo coding) are not integrated.

Exhale is quite a new encoder and there has been discussion about adding eSBR for lower bitrates to improve audio quality of lower bitrates, possibly also providing lower bitrate encoding.

Exhale's audio quality is great:
- It's better than any other format in Stereo music at ~64 kbit/s, listening test here: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=119333.0
- It's better than any AAC LC encoder at ~80/96 kbit/s and higher bitrates.
