New 9.1.6 AAC encoder audio quality ?

I'm using two version of EZ CD Audio Converter. One is 8.3.2 and another one is 9.1.6.
I've converted 100 files from FLAC to AAC-LC VBR Q8.

I've tested both encoder and I found the new EZ CD 9.1.6 with (Fraunhofer FDK AAC library, Version: 4.0.1) has poor quality than the older EZ CD 8.3.2 which comes with (FhG FDK AAC library, Version: 4.0.0)

The newer EZ CD 9.1.6 version provides artifacts even in AAC-LC VBR Q8 but when I convert the same file with CBR 256kbps. The artifacts are gone.

There must be something wrong with EZ CD 9.1.6 AAC-LC encoder.

Both versions 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 are mostly the same. I highly doubt FDK 4.0.1 (bug fixes) introduce new audible problems.

However, I am currently working with the new Fraunhofer FDK AAC Codec Library v4.0.1 (Update 201124) [ AAC Encoder v4.0.1, FDK Tools v3.1.0 ] retunings to provide improved audio quality. It is a time taking process, but the results are great so far.

The new FDK AAC version also has an improvement in VBR algorithm.

It is almost finished. It was supposed to be released this weekend along with the updated xHE-AAC encoder. If we work hard enough next two days, it will be available next weekend or next week.

The information is preliminary and there still may be minor adjustments based on listening tests of perceived audio quality.

I am still rerunning the VBR average bitrate tests and also added one more VBR Mode (HE-AAC 80 kbit/s).
