Clicking/Pop noise between audio tracks

Post by pcezcd007 » Thu Nov 02, 2023 8:50 am

Hi Support,

I have some DSF audio track albums and when playing, there are some clicking/pop noise between tracks....
In EZ CD Audio Converter tools, are there any options to remove these noises during audio files conversion ?

Thanks + Best Rgds,
Peter.

EZ CD Audio Converter cannot do any click-removal DSPs for your DSF files. Maybe it's an issue with your DSD player or DSF files ?

Hi Support,

I see, OK I got it.
Likely it is an issue with my DSF files...

Anyway, many thanks for your great support as always with comments.

Rgds,
Peter.

I knew I had seen something related to this before, and I just remembered where that was.

The sacd_extract utility has an option for creating 'Padding-less DSF' files.

The option is described as follows:
Padding-less DSF generation (-z): Some players do not handle zero padding in DSF correctly resulting in a pop noise at a track transition. With this option, instead of zero padding, the data fragment that doesn't perfectly fit in the 4096 Bytes/channel block size at the tail of a track is carried forward to the head of the next track so no zero padding is needed. This is a loss-less process.

It sounds like your player is one of the ones that doesn't handle zero padding at the end of tracks to ensure that they align with the 4K block sizes in use, so I wonder if we need a similar option made available here (if it's practical to integrate into EZ CD). I'm not particularly keen on this solution as it's actually moving the track markers to make them all align with 4K data blocks, but if I was suffering pops between tracks then I'd probably think this was a good idea.

I was using my Jriver Media Center to split SACD ISO files. These would often have Clicks / Pops between tracks which was annoying. Since i started using Easy CD Audio Converter to extract / split the tracks I no longer have this issue.

Just drag and drop the ISO file into Easy CD AC and select DSD as the convertor and you will get nice clean DSF / DSD files.

I think it depends more on the DAC/player combination than the tool used to extract the DSF files, which is why SACDextract has the option to move the track gaps to force them to 4K boundaries.

I don't like the idea of having to use this option, but I appreciate that if you have a DAC/player that's fussy about it, it's not a bad option to have available.

When I switched to Easy CD Audio converter for my SACD ISO Extractions I never made any adjustments or changes and I never had another issue with Pops between tracks.

I use foobar to play DSF. The only pop is the first track.
My FiiO X5 2nd gen player doesn't have only pops with DSF.
