Drive Spin-Up Not Applied

Post by dlx » Sun Dec 27, 2015 11:50 pm

v3.1.5 64-bit

Even if enabled and set to 16 seconds, the Drive Spin-up option is not always applied prior to start extracting audio...

Regards,

Daniel

Drive Spin-Up seems to work fine.

The Spin-Up feature works so that EZ CD will read the CD number of seconds set in the Drive Spin-Up options and then start the real ripping of the CD.

If the drive does not spin-up to its full speed during the 16 seconds spin-up then I think the drive is not able to read the CD as faster speed.

Hi Poiko,

If I set the option, then for the first CD the disc do Spin-up correctly, but once done, if I remove the CD and put another one and click to start ripping within a few seconds, the disc start to rip immediately WITHOUT spinning for "x" seconds first as set... However, if I wait long enough after inserting a CD, the drive do respect the setting and spin-up as it should...

This behavior was not happening with v3.1.4 (which applied Spin-Up correctly), I did notice this "bug" as soon as I upgraded to v3.1.5 ...

Best Regards,

Daniel :-)

Hi Poiko,

For your information, I downgraded to v3.1.4 on my main station here and the "Spin-Up" issue experienced with v3.1.5 is gone...

There's definitely something different between these versions... for whatever reason, v3.1.5 sometimes bypass the disc Spin-Up option...

Regards,

Daniel

That is strange. I will investigate how it can happen.

I found the BUG. I fixed the BUG for the next version.

It was a missing variable initialization in Normal and Range mode  (so the result was random, depending whether there was a 1 or 0 in the allocated memory). Why it always works with v3.1.4 ? Maybe I have accidentally deleted one line with the code editor when building v3.1.5...

Yup, precisely ! :-)

Good question, I've never experienced any Spin-up failure with v3.1.4 ...

Thanks for your support, you're the BEST !

Hmmmm... hate to bump up an old thread but I am still experiencing this random spin-up issue on the 9.3.2 version.

It makes a huge different to my rip times and I have a 900 CD collection to batch rip, so it would be good to have it solved...

I have tried:
  • toggle error detection on/off
  • different read speed settings
  • different spin-up times
Nothing helps - the drive just randomly spins up for some CDs and for others not.

Environment:
- Windows 10 64bit 2021H2
- Asus X570 mobo with a Ryzen 3950x
- Asus DRW-24F1ST a DVD reader with 1.00 firmware

...Adding further, that it mostly does it with certain discs and others not, apparently for no reason at all - for instance, I have a double CD set where it will spin up for CD1 but not for CD2 and I can go back and forth between them and reproduce the behaviour

And also:
What seems to happen is that whatever value is input for the the spin-up seconds is ignored and disc starts ripping immediately after pressing the RIP CD button, which sounds to me like a regression for the bug that has been reported earlier on this thread.

Hi - any news on this? It really makes my CD ripping take literally more than double the time :(

I cannot find any issues on disc spin-up feature in EZ CD Audio Converter 9.3.2.

I've tested with multiple drives, multiple CDs. Took a look at the source code for the spin-up function. No issues.

So the problem you're having is "interesting" - do you only have one drive you're using ? Because if you're using multiple drives then you need to configure spin-up invidually for each drive.
