Did you convert from mp3 to mp3 ?

Or did you convert both from an original lossless format ?

As you can see the results between EZ CD Audio Converter and Official LAME.exe MP3 encoder are equal.

The LAME Highest Quality Mode (-Q 0) uses more aggressive noise-shaping to improve the overall quality of the audio.
hydrogenaudio.org wrote: "First mistake is looking at spectrograms."

"The spectrogram only shows you which parts of the spectrum have been preserved by the encoder, but not how well they have been preserved.

In higher quality modes, LAME is better at figuring out which parts of the spectrum are inaudible at different points in time and throwing that data away. With less information to encode, the remaining information can be encoded at a higher quality."

all good codecs works with a psychoacustic modell
in case of mp3 (or same with opus) its run through a lowpass of 20kHz (or native in MDCT-calcs)
for the mass it exist only one case this is not good
pitching samples to slow for use as instrument in a DAW.
