Audio [ WAV ] files drag & drop

Post by pcezcd007 » Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:12 pm

Hi, Support,

I'm using updated version v9.3.2 (Windows 64 bit). And, I can't drag & drop ".wav" file into converter window, but it seems like other file type like "FLAC", "WV", "DSD DFF", or even cue files, it should be working properly !

Is this a program bug ?

Please check & return reply....

Thank You !
Peter Chan.

I can't see any problems adding WAV files to the list (EZ CD 9.3.2).

Can you send me one WAV file that does not work to my email poiko (at) kolumbus.fi ?

It may not work if the WAV file header is not correct (e.g. ID3V2 tag written to the beginning of the file).

Hi again,

This morning I figured out the possible cause of the problem.....
That "wav" file is a 32 bit /192 kHz file extracted from a "wv" file(I extract it by WavPack 5.4.0). However, if I load the "wv" file into EZ CD program window, it can process the conversion. So, is that due to the limitation of processing 32-192 PCM wav file ?

Just FYI, I also tried to use Foobar 2K to load the "wav" file, and it can handle the file & process the conversion without fail.

Since that "wav" file size is around 3GB, I'm afraid I can't send it by email...

Awaiting your further reply !
Best Rgds,
Peter Chan.

Hi Support,

Further to my last reply, I just tried to open that wav file with MP3tag, and tried to manually edit & input some tag info. such as "Artist name",
"Album name", etc., into the relevant tag fields..

Then finally when I want to save those tag info., MP3tag warned me with an error message : "...cannot be opened for writing" , and the tag fields update was failed.

Does this help you to give me any further comments ?

Best Rgds,
Peter Chan.

EZ CD can handle all bit depths and sample rates.

Can you share it with some service for testing purposes.

I can try WavPack 5.4.0 for creating 3GB 32-bit 192kHz wav file for testings.

Hi again,

Okay, I'll email you the private link then(at jukka.poikolainen poikosoft.com), to download the original "WV" file for testing purposes.

wvunpack 5.4.0 writes invalid data-chunk (zero chunk size) (probably when the data size exceeds the WAV limit of 2GB)

I made a workaround and added ability to read pcm-data even if the data chunk size is set to zero:

Here's the updated WAV-reader for EZ CD Audio Converter 9.3.2+:

https://download.poikosoft.com/wvunpack ... er-fix.zip

I've notified David @ WavPack to change the WAV data chunk size limit to 4GB and auto-switch to RF64 format if the data chunk size exceeds 4GB.

Hi Support, good day,

Thank you for your prompt reply with quick fix. And, I have extracted that two new *.dll files & then copy into EZ CD Audio program directory.

I restart EZ CD Audio, and drag & drop the same wav file into program window, then confirm that this little bug has been fixed.

Thank you again for your great support !

Hi Peter,

WavPack files contain a copy of the original file’s header and this is what the wvunpack utility uses by default (so it can be truly lossless, even with headers). The WavPack file that you started with probably contains an invalid WAV header, and that’s why you’re seeing what you’re seeing. This happens for several reasons and is actually pretty common.

The wvunpack utility has an option (-w or --wav) to force the creation of a new fresh WAV header instead of using the original one. In your case this might be a good idea. The disadvantage of this is that sometimes WAV headers contain all sorts of other metadata (especially from DAW programs) and these would be lost, but if you’re just concerned about the audio then this couldn’t matter. You can use the -ss option of wvunpack to see how much information is in the original headers.

Hope this is useful!
